Free Senior Transportation Resource Fair Coming to Oceanside on August 19

Transportation plays an important role in helping older adults stay independent and connected to the people and places that matter most. On Wednesday, August 19, Senior Tech Connect, in partnership with the City of Oceanside Parks & Recreation and the San Diego Seniors Community Foundation, invites adults 55+ to attend the Senior Transportation Resource Fair, a free community event showcasing transportation resources available throughout North County San Diego.
The morning begins with a hands-on workshop led by Senior Tech Connect, where attendees will learn to book an Uber ride using their own smartphone. Following the workshop, participants can meet transportation providers, tour accessible vehicles, and explore local services that support independent living.

Free registration is available online through the City of Oceanside registration page or in person at any City of Oceanside recreation center. Event materials will be available in English and Spanish.

Learn to request an Uber ride using their own smartphone with one-on-one coaching.
Meet transportation providers serving North County San Diego.
Tour accessible vehicles, including wheelchair-lift equipped vans.
Participate in short demonstration rides.
Ask questions and learn about transportation services available to older adults, caregivers, and veterans.
Why This Event Matters
Losing the ability to drive is one of the most disruptive transitions older adults face, and it often happens before alternative transportation options become familiar. Rideshare apps, dial-a-ride programs, paratransit, volunteer driver networks, and veteran-specific transportation services all exist throughout North County San Diego, but they operate differently, have different eligibility requirements, and use different booking methods.
The Senior Transportation Resource Fair is designed to close that gap in a single morning. Rather than simply handing out brochures, the event puts a phone in each attendee’s hand, walks them through booking a ride, and then introduces them directly to the transportation providers who can help them stay active, connected, and independent.
